KARACHI: MQM Coordination Committee on Sunday hailed the government for making it mandatory for motorcyclists to wear a helmet. It said that the MQM supports this step taken for protecting the life of riders.

In a statement, the Co-ordination Committee said that the ratio of deaths of motorcyclists in road accidents was the greatest, and hence it is a good step of the government to make the wearing of helmet mandatory.

The Coordination Committee said that precious lives could be saved by following traffic rules; hence, it is necessary to impose this condition across Pakistan.

It urged PM Nawaz Sharif to enact a law for making it compulsory for motorcyclists to wear helmets for their safety. It demanded of the Sindh government to extend the condition for wearing helmets in the entire province. The committee said that a reprieve of ten days should be allowed to facilitate people for buying helmets.
