Blast: (16 martyred in Shabqadar blast)

ISLAMABAD: Sixteen people were martyred and 26 wounded in a suicide blast in Session Courts Shabqadar of District Charsadda on Monday.

According to police, the martyred include three police personnel, six women, five men and two children. The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Five policemen are also among the injured.

Talking to newsmen, DIG Mardan Saeed Wazir said the suicide bomber was trying to enter the courts. However, police stopped him at the gate and later he blew himself up. AIG Bomb Disposal Squad Shafqat Malik said six to eight kilogram explosive was used in the blast.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain, Acting President Mian Raza Rabbani and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have condemned the terrorist attack in Charsadda.

They extended condolences to the victims’ families and prayed to Allah Almighty for grant of courage to them for bearing the irreparable losses. The Prime Minister in his message said the brave police officials who embraced martyrdom in line of duty sacrificed their today to safeguard a peaceful tomorrow for our future generations.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri have also condemned the attack.
