Call for awareness about hazards of self-medication

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Saturday said pharmacists have significant role in healthcare sector and people should be sensitized about hazards of self medication through proper awareness campaigns.

He expressed these views while addressing a seminar followed by awareness walk in the eve of World Pharmacists Day (Hazards of self-medication) organized by Medical & Social Welfare Committee, Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) in collaboration with Pharmacy Graduates Association at ACP.

Shoaib Siddiqui stressed the need of creating awareness in the society about self-medication and its hazards. He said pharmacists’ posts are considered very technical and important posts in medical field. He also appreciated the organizers for organizing such informative event.

Chief Patron Pharmacy Graduates Association Dr Zain-ul-Hasnain urged the government to ensure the appointment of pharmacists in public healthcares for better healthy delivery system.

He said aim of celebrating the World Pharmacy Day to create awareness about the important role of pharmacists in health sectors. He said authorities concerned fulfill the posts of pharmacists in public and private healthcares in order to ensure better health facilities to public.

Chairman, Medical & Social Welfare Committee, (ACP), Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad said trend of self medication has increasing day by day in the Pakistan especially the use of antibiotic medicines. He said physicians and pharmacists should create awareness about the side-effects and hazardous of self medication thorough counseling.
