Call to incorporate Bukhari’s poetry in varsity syllabus

JAMSHORO: Speakers at a function organized on the eve of 22nd death anniversary of renowned Sindhi poet Ustad Bukhari, have stressed the need of including his poetry in the syllabus at university level across Sindh province in order to make the youths aware of his message which he gave through poems.

“Ustad Bukhari guided the people through his poetry on the issues of Sindh and discussed their culture, life style, hardships and struggles,” they said while addressing a function organized on the eve of 22nd death anniversary of ever green Sindhi poet Syed Ahmed Shah Bukhari popularly known as Ustad Bukhari at Teachers Club, University of Sindh Jamshoro on Saturday night.

The function was jointly arranged by the intellectuals of Sindh University and Jamshoro civil society. A number of professors, poets, writers and citizens attended the programme and recited the poetry of Ustad Bukhari.

The well-known intellectual & columnist Inam Shaikh on the occasion said that the poetry of Ustad Bukhari encouraged farmers, peasants and the working class of Sindh and created awareness among the masses.

He said that poems, poetry and prose of Ustad Bukhari had unique diction. Therefore, he suggested including his poetry in the syllabus of colleges and universities in the province.

Famous artist & director of Sindhology Prof Saeed Mangi said that Ustad Bukhari had been a teacher and led a busy life in teaching and writing poetry. He used to love his people, Sindhi language and Sindh even more than his own life.

Prof Mangi further said that Ustad Bukhari continued his poetry even during the dictatorship of General Zia ul Haq.

On the occasion, Dr. Azhar Ali Shah added that Ustad Bukhari taught people how to live life in trouble. He demanded that the government should publish all of his poetry and incorporate it in the Sindhi syllabus up to university level.

Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah in his speech said that Bukhari’s poetry had strengthened Sindhi language & literature. “Such kinds of poets get birth in the centuries who write only for their people, language, literature and soil”. He maintained.

Ustad Bukhari discussed past, present and future of Sindh in his poetry. People respected him because he was a non-controversial poet. Mr. Shah said.

Another speaker Muhammad Ali Ghanghro said that the poetry of Ustad Bukhari was continuity of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai and Shaikh Ayaz.

He said that Ustad Bukhari was not only a poet, but also a scholar who guided the poor and destitute through his poetry and steered them out of the deep sleep of unconsciousness & catalepsy.

Another speaker Gulan Bhand recited the poetry of Ustad Bukhari on the occasion.

Afterwards, a musical show started which lasted till dawn. All the singers including Khadim Sakhirani, Fahmida Sahar, Sarmad Ayaz, Mashooq Khokhar, Balak Sindhi, Waqar Mallah, Nasreen Naz & Sikander Burdi sang the poetry of Ustad Bukhari and got applauses and appreciation by the participants.
