Peshawar: Representative of Diocese of Peshawar (DoP), Church of Pakistan have rejected allegations put on Bishop of Peshawar for corruption and termed it baseless.

Speaking at a news conference here at Press Club on Tuesday, Secretary, Mission and Ministry, DoP, Pastor Shehzad Murad said that all the compensation amounts had been provided to all of the injured persons of Kohati Church bomb blast incident while the rest announced amount by Federal and Sind was yet to receive.

“Every family of the victims of All Saints Church blast has been given enough support by the Church/Diocese of different NGOs and US Aid”, he claimed and added that the Church had asked them to stop begging in the name of martyrs but a few of the victims’ family members want more and more support.

Accompanied by Director Finance DoP Daniel Samuel and other members, the pastor alleged that the protesting demonstrators led by Tanveer Shirazi against Bishop was to pressurize the Diocese to get more money, houses and letter for asylum in out of Pakistan, which he added the Diocese and Bishop refused to do so and termed it as an insult of the country.

He informed that a couple of individuals had been sent abroad for treatment, wherein they started demanding for permanent stay over there, which was refused in that country, and after it here in Peshawar, they started using different tactics, black mailing and corruption and character assassination of Bishop of Peshawar Sarfaraz Humphrey Peter.

Mr Murad blamed that Tanveer Shirazi was a self-made Chair of the self-created All Saints Trust, and he is not even member of the All Saints Church, Peshawar city. “He is an imposter and cheating the press and the government”, he alleged. Shirazi even submitted a case in Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the Bishop, which was entertained.

The more pending compensation, he informed that they did not know whether Chief Executive Officer of Baharia Town announced the compensation for the bereaved family members of not but the announced amount by federal and Sind was to yet receive. He, therefore, demanded of the governments to fulfil their promises in shape of compensation forthwith so that the family members of the victims could be provided.

He accused Tanveer Shirazi of inciting the family members of victims against Bishop and diocese of Peshawar and wants unrest within the Christian community, so viewing this matter and avoid any damage in the community, a legal notice has been issued to him (Tanveer) and other protesters.

The pastor further said about DoP is an organization but a group of few individuals and any support or help coming for any one comes to the Diocese’s Church treasure office not in the name of Bishop of Diocese.
