CITY: (Candlelight vigil urges international community to take notice of genocide of Rohingya Muslims in MyanmarJune 6, 2015
ISLAMABAD: A candlelight vigil was organized here on Sunday to express solidarity and calling upon the international community to take notice of genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
The candlelight vigil was organized by Pakistan International Human Rights Organization (PIHRO) in collaboration with Shah Faisal Welfare Trust Pakistan (SFWTP) here outside the National Press Club.
Hundreds of people including female folk belonging to different walks of life participated in the vigil to express solidarity with the Rohingya Muslim in Myanmar.
They called upon the international community, particularly United Nations (UN) and Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) to play their due and pivotal role in stopping brutalities and genocide of the Rohingya Muslims.
They said silence of the United Nations, OIC and other world bodies over the massacre of Rohingya Muslims had raised many questions. They staged a peaceful protest demonstration against the genocide of Rohingya Muslims and demanded immediate stop of their massacre.
They also observed a minute silence. The participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with ‘Stop genocide of Rohingya Muslims’, Give them the right to live, stop human rights violations. “We salute Turkish Prime Minister for visiting Myanmar to express solidarity with Rohingya Muslim”, where are the UN and other human rights champions?
PIHRO president Habib Malik Orakzai, SFWTP president Muhammad Zulqarnain Sulehrai and Dr M. Ehsanul Haque spoke to the participants.
