KARACHI: Taking suo motu notice on applications calling for action against illegal hydrants being operated in the city, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk summoned the reports from authorities concerned.

The chief justice took notice on the applications received through Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell. The applications stated that influential mafias were operating illegal hydrants openly in the city by stealing water from Karachi Water & Sewerage Board’s pipelines in different areas.

It was further stated that not only the increase of illegal Hydrants had inevitably damaged the water board’s main water supply system but these illegal water connections were polluting the clean water and are creating health hazards and environmental problems. Due to the operation of illegal hydrants, the residents were facing acute water shortage.

The chief justice has summoned the reports from the authorities concerned and ordered court officials to list the matter for the hearing in this week at apex court’s Karachi registry.
