QUETTA: Special need is required for communication, agriculture and mining sectors for development of Balochistan and ameliorating living of people. This was stated by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch while speaking to Werner Liepach Country Director Asian Development Bank who called on him at the head of a delegation here Wednesday.
Provincial Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Economist Qaiser Bengali were also present at the meeting.
Chief Minister said underground water level was depleting to a dangerous level If steps were not taken in this regard in time agriculture in major areas of Balochistan would suffer to a great extent. He said 200 small and big dams can be built to maintain underground water level and preserving rain water for using for agriculture. Owing to shortage of funds provincial government cannot go ahead with these projects. He said vast opportunities exist for investment in mining and minerals sector. Development of mining and investment in this sector would provide employment opportunities to the people raising their life standard.
To benefit from Gwadar Port and for development of the area linking this port with rest of the country with the province and national highways of the country is inevitable. Without building roads objectives of building Gwadar Port cannot be achieved.
DR Malik Baloch said without improving roads, dams and mining sectors end to backwardness and unemployment is not possible. Provincial government needs special cooperation of international donor agencies to improve standard of living of people.
He said government was also taking effective measures for improving education.
Asian Development Bank delegation assured Chief Minister of cooperation in projects for Balochistan’s development and enhancing life standard of people.
