CM inaugurates the high security Central Jail at Mardan

Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has inaugurated the high security Central Jail at Mardan on Wednesday and ordered to convert the old district jail into a modern family recreational park.

The new jail was constructed on an area of 324 Kanals of land at a cost of Rs1729.199 million having capacity to house 2200 prisoners including high security arrangements for 62 prisoners. It was told to the Chief Minister at a briefing held on this occasion.

The Provincial Minister for Education Mohammad Atif Khan, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Jails Malik Qasim Khan, the Chairman DDAC Mardan Iftikhar Mashwani, MPAs Mohammad Zahid Durrani, Ubaidullah Mayar, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Additional Secretary Home & Tribal Affairs department, Inspector General Prisons, Commissioner Mardan Division and other officer was also present.

The Chief Minister appreciated the provision of necessary and modern living facilities at the jail as well as standard of its construction. He, however, was dissatisfied over deputation of untrained IT and other staff to operate the security system and issued orders to further upgrade the system by training the staff and installing the higher power security equipments that could bring the jail at par with international standards.

He ordered to take whatever measures are required for making the security system fully foolproof in every aspect. He also asked the authorities concerned to shift the inmates of old district jail Mardan into the new building as soon as possible and dismantle the building of the old prison which was in dilapidated condition and built a modern park over the land.

During another briefing about uplift and beautification of Mardan city, the Chief Minister also expressed concerned over delay in rehabilitation and reconstruction of the three parks of Mardan and issued orders to remove impediment for early completion of the parks which include the jail park, Gujar Garhi Park and Sheikh Maltoon town park. He also directed to provide most modern facilities and recreational installations in the parks.

While talking to media later the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said that old district jail of Mardan will be converted to modern Family Park. He said that need of the purpose built high security jail in the province had been fulfilled. He said that in order to detect prohibited articles in possession of the prisoners the security system was being made stronger.

To a question the Chief Minister told that Mardan uplift and beautification project has been initiated and all modern civic facilities provided to Peshawar were now being expanded to Mardan and other divisional headquarters of the province.

He said that approval had been accorded for establishing a women University at Mardan while improvement of Sheik Maltoon Town Park and the sanitation system was also underway.
