CM orders health dept to expedite work on hospitals, trauma centersOctober 19, 2015
KARACHI:Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday directed health department to expedite the completion of Rs16.13 billion 113 health facilities launched in 17 districts and 41 talukas of SIndh province.
This he said while presiding over a high-level meeting of Health Department to review its development schemes here at CM House. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sindh Siddique Memon, Aijaz Ali Khan, Alamuddin Bullo, Sohail Rajput, Saeed Mangnijo, Project Director Dr Suresh, DG Health and other senior officers of health and P&D departments.
Secretary Health briefing the meeting, said that over Rs16.13 billion different schemes of up-gradation, expansion & renovation of District Headquarters Hospital (DHQs), Taluka Headquarters Hospital (THQs) and establishment of 41 Trauma Centers have been launched.
He said under the scheme, Rs4.5 billion expansion and improvement of DHQs in Badin, Shikarpur, Khairpur and Mithi have been launched. “The work on Badin DHQ for Rs1106.2 million had been completed by 96 percent. Only final touch ups are being made,” he said added that the construction work of Shikarpur DHQ Hospital launched for Rs942.94 million had been completed by 78 percent while the work on Khairpur hospital launched for Rs1610.067 million completed by 80 percent.
Chief Minister said that work on these schemes had been delayed inordinately. “This is intolerable and I want you to give me time line to complete the work”. On this, the secretary health assured the chair that by December 31, work would be completed.
Senior Minister for Finance & Energy Syed Murad Ali Shah told the chief minister that his department had already released Rs 500 million. “Let them utilize the available funds and then more funds would be provided to them for completion of the schemes,” he assured.
Project Director of the schemes Dr Suresh said that the up-gradation of THQ hospitals to the level of DHQs hospitals in Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Kotri had been launched for Rs1.5 billion, of them Rs824.677 million had been released, while the allocation of this year stands at Rss772.637 million.
On this the chief minister said: “I want to see them functional. The purpose of utilising millions of rupees on up-gradation and expansion of the hospitals would be achieved when they would start providing health services to the people of their respective areas. He directed Minister Health Jam Mehtab Dahar to take necessary measures to make them functional as soon as they are handed over to the health department.
Jam Mehtab said that the expansion and improvement of DHQ hospitals of six districts, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Sanghar, Mirpur Mathelo and Naushehro Feroze launched for Rs3.24 billion were progressing to completion. “The work on Dadu hospital has been completed by 62 percent, Mirpurkhas 72 percent, Thatta 52 percent, Mirpur Mathelo 70 percent, Naushehro Feroze 70 percent while the work on Sanghar hospital has been completed 100 percent.
Replying to a question by the chief minister, finance minister Syed Murad Shah said that he had allocated Rs 450 million for the scheme during the current year and we would be giving them more funds subject to the progress of the schemes.
CM asked the health minister about the progress of Trauma Centers being established in 41 THQ hospitals. The health minister said that 18 trauma centers stand completed while 83 percent work on the remaining had been achieved.
CM said that he would start inaugurating the upgraded hospitals and trauma centers from January 2016. “This is public services and we are committed with our people, therefore each and every one of us have to personally monitor quality of the work and their completion in time,” he urged.
