Commissioner asks why Sea Breeze Plaza stays unused

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has expressed concern over the mysterious activities, non-usage and suspicious situation of Sea Breeze Plaza on MA Jinnah Road and demanded details regarding this from cantonment board.

He asked cantonment board to provide detailed reasons for keeping the plaza closed and having no business and residential activities in it so that the building could be used for the public interest and the suspicious activities could be stopped.

Siddiqui said while presiding a meeting with disaster management group at his office. Comkar Pakistan Navy, director general Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), director general Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), administrator Defence Housing Authority, managing director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, representatives of all the deputy commissioners, IG traffic police and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.

A policy was formulated in the meeting to tackle the situation of earthquake and other natural disasters. The commissioner directed SBCA to extend the circle of approving earthquake-proof building maps from above 50 storey buildings to double storey buildings in order to minimize loss of lives and properties of the citizens from earthquake.

It was decided in the meeting that Rescue 1299 of Commissioner House should be made more effective by spreading more and more awareness among people and organizations and by holding awareness and training seminars in this regard.

The meeting also decided that list of the people trained from civil defence would be provided to PDMA, while an awareness walk would be held on 22nd October at 10:00am near Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum.

The members of the disaster management group would be given special identifications. Enlisting old and shabby buildings was also discussed.

The commissioner also directed the relevant deputy commissioner to resolve the complaints of fishermen of their areas.
