KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui took serious notice of power breakdown with the start of drizzling on Tuesday night and personally witnessed the negligence of K-Electric for not registering consumers’ complaints.
KE has developed such a system in which feeder automatically gets tripped with spell of drizzling only, which is termed by them as ‘rain feeder trip’ and it is usually restored hours after rain is stopped.
Administrator KMC reached at KE complaint cell on Tipu Sultan road where the window from where complaint gets registered was closed and nobody was present to listen and register complaints of a large number of citizens present there. He expressed anger over the behaviour and directed to open the windows then the KE staff opened the windows and started registering complaints.
He remained in the complaint cell for 20 minutes and talked to KE higher authorities after which electricity started restoring.
Siddiqui visited Malir, Kala Board, at 3:00am on the complaint of gathering of water, meanwhile, the water was cleaned on information of the commissioner’s arrival by staff of local government departments.
“Rain emergency will remain imposed in local government departments. Deputy commissioners should monitor the performance of local government departments. No department should be neglecting in performing their duties,” he said on Tuesday while addressing an emergency meeting with all the deputy commissioners and representatives of KMC, DMCs, cantonment boards, Civil Association Authority, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board and other organizations.
He said municipal commissioner should himself monitor cleaning of rainwater drains. He acknowledged that complete cleaning of rainwater drains was not possible, however all the places should be cleaned where there was obstruction in the way of drainage of rainwater.
