Commissioner orders withdrawal of notices to Museum

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has asked the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) and the K-Electric (KE) to withdraw the disconnection notices issued by them to the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum.

He was chairing a meeting to review the problems being faced by the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum at his office. The officials of Quaid-e-Azam House, KWSB and K-E were also present on the occasion.

The commissioner asked the K-E and the KWSB to demonstrate the national spirit and respect for the name of founder Pakistan Quaid-e- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. “This museum has personal belongings of the Quaid,” he added. He said the attitude towards the museum was against the dignity of the Quaid.

He advised them to withdraw the bills issued against the connections of electricity and water supply showing respect and generosity towards the Quaid.

In charge of the Museum, Assistant Director, Nahid Zehra, informed the meeting that Rs 263,000 dues were outstanding against the water supply bill, while electricity bill was more than Rs 200,000.

She also informed about the sewerage problem they were facing as sewerage line was chocked due to the construction of electricity substation.

The meeting was also informed that there was no sweeper for cleaning, gardener for plants and librarian to look after the work of preserving the documents belonging to the Quaid.

Siddiqui said he would make all out efforts under his authority to better look after the museum with national spirit. He said he would also take steps for preservation of archives. It was decided in the meeting that the commissioner would approach the concerned government department to get allocation of the required funds so that financial needs of the museum could be met.

It was also decided that study programmes on the Quaid and his services for nation would be initiated. Special programmes in this regard would also be organized for children who would be invited from different schools.
