Contract employees demand regularization

KARACHI: The jobs of lower cadre contract employees of Neurosurgery Department, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) could not be regularized despite the lapse of nine years.

An employee of Neurosurgery Department on condition of anonymity told PPI that about 250 employees were hired in 2007 by the federal government on contract basis for the neurosurgery department project.

He said of these employees the jobs of doctors, staff nurses, physiotherapists and some other staff were regularized by the last government in 2011 but unfortunately about 100 lower cadre employees from grade 01 to 15 could not be regularized.

The administrative power of the hospital was handed over to provincial government of Sindh in 2012-13. The lower grade contract staff of the department is deprived promotions, annual increment, health allowance and other facilities. These employees are working on fix- pay since their joining.

President, Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPMSA) Sindh chapter, Ismail Jiskani has demanded of the health department Sindh to regularize these employees on urgent basis.

JPMC Focal Person Dr Jawaid Akhtar Jamali told PPI that they had already sent a list of these employees to the provincial secretary health for regularization of their jobs.
