Corruption is two-faced snake: moot toldOctober 14, 2015
LARKANA: Corruption is two-faced snake, which has eaten up whole country and has rendered it hollow.
This was stated by Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) leader Prof Dr Syed Tipu Sultan addressing a seminar organized at Chandka Medical College by Character Building Society, with the theme of Character Building. The students of the college took part along with doctors in the event.
“Prof Tipu said corruption’s roots are spread everywhere in the medical field and doctors have connections with medical stores, pharmaceutical companies and laboratories.” He said that in health sector from budget to hospitals, colleges and universities’ top slots everything is putting an auction. Major portion of the allocated budget is consumed for procurement of costly machineries.
He said that equipment and instruments costing 20 million rupees are purchased in 320 million and in this way, 1000% commission is obtained. He said 40% budget is spent on 1% people who arrive to get medical treatment at Jinnah Hospital Civil Hospital or Chandka Hospital and 45% is spent on district and taluka hospitals where only 9% people go for treatment.
He said that 15% budget is allocated to basic health units and rural health centres where 90% people go to get medical treatment which is astonishing. “Prof Tipu further said that record corruption is made over procurement of drugs & medicines but no budget is allocated for repair of costly machineries, equipment & instruments which indeed amount to destruction of entire tax payer’s investment.”
He said corruption is produced with bad governance and merit is killed due to massive political interference. He said that in Punjab medical centres have been established in chicken farms & here these are constantly rising. NAB Sukkur Additional Director Nadeem Shaikh said that for character building during upbringing of youth their parents should be of high character.
He said that their presence here shows that they want youth to build corruption-free Pakistan which is a national cause. Registrar, Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Prof Sikandar Mughal, said that he feels happy watching youth that they consider corruption a bad menace. He said that mismanagement had ruined the system in hospitals, colleges and universities for which we also need to take individual efforts.
