Cuban Envoy calls on IPC Minister

Islamabad: Federal Minister of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC), Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada has said Pakistan and Cuba possessed great potential for boosting up existing bilateral ties between the two countries particularly in different areas of education and sports.

The Federal Minister said this while in a meeting with the Ambassador of Cuba Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion. The Ambassador called on the Minster here Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister acknowledged and appreciated Cuba’s medical assistance extended in the aftermath of devastating earthquake in October 2005. He added that Pakistani students studying in three medical universities of Cuba would contribute to further deepening of the relations, after their graduation from Cuba.

Federal Minister stressed that Cuba has excellent achievement in the field of biotechnology. There is a need to institutionalize formal cooperation between the two countries so that Pakistan can benefit from Cuban experience in the field of biotechnology, including transfer of technology.

Ambassador of Cuba Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion added, various sports and pastimes were popular in both the countries including basketball, boxing, cockfighting, volleyball, football, badminton, karate, taekwondo, billiards, ten-pin bowling, chess, cycling, and mountaineering. Both the countries should focus on creating more opportunities to invite various players of different games on reciprocal basis.

In the end it was established that both countries were committed more than ever to elevating Cuba-Pakistan ties to a higher plane for the prosperity of their peoples.
