Culture dept be given to person who knows local language: intellectuals

Naudero, Sindh: The central leader of Awami Jamhoori Party (AJP) has severely criticized the alleged abusive language of Sindh Culture Minister against Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS).

Addressing an emergency meeting held here Comrade Hussain Bux Narejo said that SAS is the representative body of Sindh comprising intellectuals, educationists and renowned writers and derogatory remarks against it by Culture Minister Sharmila Faruqui will not be tolerated. He said that her attitude is highly irresponsible and must be condemned at all forums.

Narejo said that since long the Culture Department has been playing with the sentiments of the people in the name of organizing so-called cultural events and festivals.

However, SAS Secretary & noted poet Manzoor Mangi said that how a Culture Minister who even cannot speak Sindhi language can understand the rich cultural heritage & literature of Sindh. He condemned the remarks of the alleged minister and charged that in the name of organizing Moenjo Daro Mega Cultural Festival recently she not only ruined the culture of Sindh but also damaged 5000-years old heritage site of Sindh which is duly reported by the media.

Mangi terming the remarks of the minister are discriminatory and demanded of her party to take notice of her language and behaviours. He said that under these circumstances this minister cannot do justice with Sindhi culture and traditions.

The meeting unanimously demanded that Faruqi should be removed from the post and a person knowing at least Sindhi language should be made minister of this highly sensitive department. They also demanded that action against culture department bureaucrats must also be taken.

Ghulam Hussain Katpar, Betab Solangi, Latif Kertio, Mujeeb Kandhar, Rafique Khuhro, Sahab Khan Shaikh and others also spoke on the occasion.
