Islamabad: A delegation of rice growers, office bearers of Kissan Board and Rice Millers’ Association of Pakistan headed by Mr. Jaffar Iqbal, MNA met on Thursday with the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.

The issue of low price of paddy was brought to the notice of the Federal Minister and it was requested that Ministry of NFS&R should intervene in the market to stabilize the prevailing price scenario.

It was also noticed that export of rice to Iran also decreased due to lot of reasons like international sanctions, registration of exported firms and political reasons.

The Federal Minister assured that Government is sensitized on this issue. In this regard a record note would be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office for fixation of paddy rice price for 2014-15 crop and its procurement by the PASSCO.

The matter would also be taken up in the ECC of the Cabinet during next week. Ministry of Finance may also be requested to intervene in the matter for enhancement of financial limit for rice processors on priority basis.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives of Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and attached departments of this Ministry like Agriculture Policy Institute (API) and PASSCO.
