Disease Surveillance Units in govt hospitals soon

KARACHI: Provincial Health Department Sindh has decided to set up disease surveillance units across the Sindh province, especially in Karachi to get diseases data from public sector hospitals in order to provide better management of seasonal diseases in children, it was learned on Tuesday.

An official of Health Department, Government of Sindh informed that department had decided to establish disease surveillance units thorough the province to ensure surveillance of seasonal diseases in public hospitals. In this connection, Director Health Karachi also issued necessary directives in this regard.

The central office of disease surveillance unit will be established in Karachi while another office will be set up in Director Health Karachi Office. The surveillance of dengue, pneumonia, polio, measles and other infectious diseases will be done.

All the public hospitals will share data with central disease surveillance cell. The focal person will be selected from each hospital for data sharing to central office. The establishments of disease surveillance units in the province will help to manage seasonal diseases properly.
