KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued a contempt notice to Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali for flouting its order regarding removal of encroachments from Railway Society’s land.

Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, SHC bench was hearing the court’s contempt plea for not removing encroachment from the land which was allocated for Railway Cooperative Society.

Earlier, on 29th September SHC directed police and other concerned departments to remove encroachments and evacuate Railway’s land; however, they were unable to do so, on which the petitioner filed the contempt of court petition.

On the petition, SHC directed IG Sindh to ensure his appearance and inform the court why its order has not been complied with yet. Despite the court’s direction IGP Sindh Jamali did not appear before the court on Tuesday’s hearing.

Additional Attorney General (AAG), Ghulam Mustafa Mahesar informed the court that IG Jamali was effecting his appearance before the Supreme Court; therefore, Additional IG of Sindh Police and DSP were appeared. AAG acknowledged order’s copy of the court, directing them to remove the encroachments was received but has not been complied with yet.

The SHC issued notice to Sindh’s top police official for filing his reply within a week.

“Let show cause notice be issued to the Inspector General of Sindh Police as to why proceeding for disobedience of this court dated 29th September should not be initiated against him. His response should be on record within a week’s time”, the court order stated.
