District: Flood affectees still seeking financial compensation

Sialkot: Commissioner Gujranwala Division Khawaja Shamail Ahmed has said that the Punjab government has yet provided a financial compensation of Rs. 127 million to the grieved families of as many as 79 deceased persons out of total 90 persons who lost their lives during the raging flood, torrential rains, roof collapsing and other related incidents in Gujranwala Division.

Presiding over a high level meeting of the district heads of the nation-building departments held at Sialkot DCO office here today, Commissioner said that the rest grieved families of the deceased persons would also get financial compensation within next couple of days.

He said that as many as 90 persons were killed and 79 persons were injured seriously during catastrophic flood, roof collapsing during torrential rains and other related incidents in Gujranwala division’s all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

He said that as many as 899 villages and 481738 acres of land was badly affected by the raging flood here , while, 1182 houses were completely damaged, 9850 houses were partially damaged during the flash flood and rains in the region.
