District: (Students, teachers’ role sought in anti measles awareness raising)

SIALKOT: MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah on Wednesday said that the government was striving to curb the menace of the measles, stressing upon the need of making all out collective and individual efforts to raise public awareness against measles.

He stated this while addressing the participants of an anti measles awareness-raising seminar held at Govt. Postgraduate College for Women Daska.

Local MPA Mohammad Asif Bajwa, EDO (Health) Sialkot Dr. Ziaul Hassan, Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhoon, DDO (Health) Daska Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed , Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Daska Dr. Zafar Awan , senior health experts, journalists and senior educationists were also present on this occasion.

The MNA sought active role of the students and their teachers in anti-measles awareness raising, saying said that the students and their teachers could also help in promoting anti-measles awareness among the society.

Addressing the participants, the senior health experts Dr. Riffat Shafiq, Dr. Abid Ali Ranjha and others said that the timely treatment of the measles could help to save the children from death, as the advanced medical research had proved the measles as very dangerous and lethal disease, recommending the promotion of maximum awareness among the people to ensure the timely medical treatment of the measles affected children.

Later, an anti measles awareness-raising walk was also taken out in Daska city during the light rainy weather here today. MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah and MPA Mohammad Asif Bajwa jointly led this walk.

A large number of the people from all walks of life participated in the walk and pledged to make all out sincere efforts to save the children from measles.

Meanwhile, addressing a seminar held in this connection at Govt. Islamia High School Sambrial here, District Health Officer (DHO) Sialkot Dr. Javaid Warraich added that a twelve-day long anti measles vaccination campaign would be launched from 9th February 2015 in Sialkot district here.

He urged the parents to ensure the anti- measles vaccination of their children between the ages of six months to ten years to save them from the clutches of the measles.
