District: (Two notorious POs killed by their companions’ firing)

SIALKOT: Two notorious proclaimed offenders (POs) were killed by the firing of their unknown armed companions in a bid to get them freed from police custody on the banks of Marala-Ravi-Link (M.R.Link) Canal near village Aallo Mahaar-Motra, Daska tehsil here late at the last night (the night between Tuesday and Wednesday).

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daska Engineer Rana Zahid Hussain a team of Motra police was taking both the notorious POs Ghulam Nabi Pathani (resident of Chunian-Kasur District) and Arif alias Arifu Oadh (resident of Sadiqabad – Rahim Yar Khan) for recovery of the weapons used in eight different incidents of dacoity and robbery towards Motra, when four unknown armed accused halted the police van by creating picket on the canal bank and tried to get the accused freed from police custody.

The accused started firing after remaining failed in getting their companions freed, killing both of the POs Ghulam Nabi Pathani and Arif alias Arifu Oadh. Accused fled away by firing in the air.

The DSP added that police had arrested both of these accused a few days ago. He said the accused were wanted by the Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Faisalabad , Kasur , Vehari and Lahore police in more than 110 cases of dacoity, robbery, murder and kidnapping.

The accused had been running an inter-province gang of dacoits across Punjab and both of these POs earlier had been jailed for four times each in different cases and were bailed out by the local courts, the DSP added.

Police shifted the dead bodies to Govt. Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital Sialkot for autopsy. According to the FIR No.62/2015) lodged at Motra police station by sub inspector Mohammad Akram under sections 323, 324, 353 and 511 PPC, the Motra-Daska police had arrested both of these POs a few days ago. FIR said that the attacking unknown armed accused fled away from the scene by dodging police in fog and darkness of the night.
