Karachi: Dow University of Health Sciences(DUHS) in collaboration with American Society for Microbiology and Pakistan Society for Microbiology organized training workshop on ‘Molecular and Immunodiagnostics’ giving its participants three days packed with impressive scientific lectures and intensive hands-on workshop covering various aspects in Histopathology, Molecular Pathology and Microbiology.
Participants from all over the country from cities like Gilgit, Peshawar, Haripur, Khairpur, Mansehra, Islamabad, Larkana, Sargodha, Lahore, Quetta, Karachi etc participated in the event. The workshop also witnessed participation from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Canada, and Qatar and hence could be deemed as an international workshop. Second day offered lectures by Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi who delivered talk on diagnostics in the control of infectious diseases. This was followed by lectures by Dr Talat Rome on signal transduction and key regulators of immune system and Dr Samreen Soomro on diagnostic techniques used in microbiology department. This was followed by hands on training session at the department of molecular pathology and microbiology.
At the department of molecular pathology participants were introduced to operation and principles of various state of the art automations present at the department and were also taught manual extraction, PCR and result analysis through electrophoresis. Whereas at the department of microbiology they were taught various processes involved in urine DR etc. But science was not the only attraction here.
