Earthquake: Hospitals put on high alert in KarachiOctober 25, 2015
KARACHI: Health Department, Government Sindh on Monday put all public hospitals on high alert in Karachi to avoid any untoward situation from expected earthquake aftershocks.
Director Health Karachi Dr Zafar Ejaz said all public hospitals have been put on high alert in the city to avoid any untoward situation after warning of the earthquake aftershocks. He said hospital administrations have been directed to ensure availability of doctors, medical staff and medicines to meet any emergency like situation.
He said heads of hospitals are directed to make all necessary arrangements to cope with any medical emergency. He further said that the medical superintendents have been directed to ensure presence of medical staff in the Accident and Emergency Departments of the hospitals, as well as, availability of lifesaving drugs.
Senior Director Health & Medical Services Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Dr Salma Kausar was not available for comment but she had already declared emergency in the public sector hospitals of Karachi in the connection of Youm e Ashur till 12th Muharram.
On other hand, A former official of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advised the general public to stay alert, keep doors unlocked, keep gas closed when not in use, remove unnecessary electric wires from passages, keep doorways and passages clear so that people could easily escape from buildings in case of strong aftershocks.
