ECP to ensure free, fair LG, by-polls in Punjab: EC Secretary

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will ensure holding of free, fair and transparent by-elections and local government elections in Punjab.

This was stated by ECP Secretary Babar Yaqub while briefing newsmen after a meeting in Lahore on Monday, which was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan.

The Secretary said I.G Punjab Police has assured that Police will perform their duties neutrality during the elections. He said that during the meeting, the District Returning Officers, particularly of Faisalabad, Okara and Gujrat, requested for provision of Pak Army or Punjab Rangers personnel for holding local government elections in their respective districts.

He said a decision in this regard will be taken by ECP in its next meeting. He said Pak Army personnel will be deputed inside and outside of polling stations in by-elections of NA-122 Lahore.

He said Pak Army has asked provision of CCTV Camera for installation at the polling stations. He said the printing of ballot paper for NA-122 Lahore by-elections is in progress under the supervision of Pak Army personnel.
