KARACHI: Prominent philanthropist and social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi on Wednesday said nothing is above the humanity and people should extend their role and support the public welfare activities.

He expressed these views while talking to media person at the inauguration ceremony of “Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi Transplant Operation Theatre Complex” held at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).

Director SIUT Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Bilquis Edhi and Faisal Edhi were also present on this occasion.

Edhi said he has served humanity without any discrimination of cast, color, creed, ethnicity, language or religion in his entire life. He said this OT complex would help thousands of needy and ailing patients who would get their transplant done free of cost and with dignity.

He urged the people to avoid smoking and chewing health hazardous substances in order to prevent from diseases. He said robbery on Edhi headquarter tantamount robbery on Pakistan as he is working for country welfare. He said he was upset on robbery incident occurred few days ago.

Prof Adibul Hasan Rizvi appreciated and lauded this benevolent gesture of Edhi family’s support of building this state-of-the-art surgical theatre complex. He said that the complex would be immense value and benefit to the kidney failure population of the country providing perpetual source of a most modern and high tech transplantation surgical facility for which SIUT is most grateful.

Referring to the recent dacoity incident at the Edhi Foundation, Dr Rizvi said that it reflected the pathetic and deplorable prevailing societal values that even people like Edhi Sahab have also not been spared from such nefarious activities.

He said nowadays whole society is in a fragmented and degenerated state. Human values are frequently violated without any fear. In these circumstances, few people like Mr and Mrs Edhi shine like beacons who have selflessly dedicated their entire lives for uplifting humanity. They have taken community work, social welfare services and compassion to a newer level.

The Abdul Sattar Edhi and Bilquis Edhi Transplant Operation Theatre Complex were built with the generous support of Edhi family. The complex is a dedicated and purpose built facility exclusively for performing living and deceased organ transplantation surgeries. The complex comprises of five operating rooms, six bedded ICU and recovery, patient holding area, and a central sterile supply department (CSSD).

The complex has been equipped with state-of-the-art laminar air flow system recommended for transplantation surgery ensuring sterility and hygiene of the internal environment of the theatre.

Earlier Prof Manzoor Hussain gave an overview of the facility with the help of video presentation.
