Efforts under way for better healthcare services to people: CMMarch 25, 2015
KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday said Pakistan People Party led government is giving more importance to the health sector and allocated more than Rs 43 billion to the provincial health department to ensure better health facilities.
This he said while addressing 332 Ice Lined Refrigerators (ILR) distribution ceremony arranged by the management of People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI), Sindh at local hotel.
He said Sindh government had did lot of work to bring improvement into the public health facilities and to ensure the efficient deliveries of health service to the people of Sindh but still there was room of improvement for the betterment of poor people.
He expressed his satisfaction on the performance of PPHI Sindh working in the health sector and simultaneously stressed upon its management to converted its more Basic Health Units into BHU plus schemes to have labour room, baby breathing corner and working round the clock specially a t the far flung areas like desert area Tharparkar so that Primary healthcare facilities to the people could be ensured.
He said that at initial stage, some people opposed PPHI but now it has rendered marvelous performance in the health sector so far the primary healthcare is concerned. He appreciated the performance of PPHI in Tharparkar district but stressed the need to expedite efforts to provide better health services to the people of these backward areas.
Qaim Ali Shah directed the health department and other stakeholder organization working on anti-polio drive to further boost up their efforts to achieve the status of Sindh polio free province. He said the government is providing all required facilities to polio eradicating teams at Karachi but still we are receiving cases due to more influx of people in city from different parts of the country.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PPHI Dr Riaz Memon said in order to maintain and strengthen the cold chain in the health facilities, PPHI is providing 332 Ice Lined Refrigerators to health facilities out which 256 were electric and 56 solar based. He said this will improve the working and protect the vaccines and other important medicines.
