KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed that eight explosives devices were found and subsequently defused in SITE area; however, one of such devices went off at a garbage dump in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. No casualties were reported in any incident.

The bombs, which were defused in SITE Metroville area, were placed in boxes and concealed in a garbage dump. Some residents spotted suspicious objects and called the police. The law enforcers, upon arrival, cordoned off the site and summoned Bomb Disposal squad (BDS).

According to a BDS official, three bombs each were placed in two boxes while two leaned against the wall of garbage dump. The BDS team inspected the entire garbage dump and defused all the eight explosives devices.

Superintendent of Police (SP) SITE Fida Hussain said that two dynamites, three Uzi rifles and crackers were also recovered from the site. He claimed that the weapons and ammunition were hidden in the garbage by some members of a banned organization.

SP said that further investigation was under way and raids have been conducting by law enforces
