Emergency imposed at Nine Zero to tackle heat situation

KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement Chief Altaf Hussain on Tuesday imposed emergency at Nine Zero over deaths of many people in Karachi due to schorching heatwave.

Earlier, he also directed the Coordination Committee and Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) to immediately set up Heatstroke Centers for the victims of sunstroke.

Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee immediately set up the first “Heatstroke Center” to provide relief to the heat victims. The “Heatstroke Center” was set up at Taj Mehal Banquette near 4K Chowrangi and would serve patients of North Karachi and Surjani areas. The Center is equipped with all necessary medicines, medical and paramedical staff.

According to reports, another 309 people lost their lives in Sindh on Monday as the punishing heat wave baked the province amid prolonged outages and stacking up of bodies in morgues. Since Saturday evening, 445 people have perished across the province in the heat wave which shows no signs of abating.

Of the 309 deaths, 301 were reported in Karachi and eight in other parts of the province – five in Badin and one each in Nawabshah, Dadu, Sukkur – bringing the combined death toll to 445, said a senior provincial government official.
