Karachi: causing immense problems to visiting patients, attendants and ambulance drivers carrying injured people and medical staff. The Anti-Encroachment Cell of Karachi Municipal Corporation has failed to remove encroachments on permanent basis.

Encroachment around major hospitals including Civil Hospital Karachi, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sindh Institute of Skin Diseases and Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) have again reappeared and KMC Anti-Encroachment Cell has failed to find permanent solution to this issue.

KMC’s Anti-Encroachment Cell KMC had launched several drives against encroachers and removed encroachments but once again encroachment reappeared surrounding areas and roads leading to major public hospital. An official at Civil Hospital Karachi told PPI that the Hospital Road, where Civil Hospital emergency ward is located, links MA Jinnah Road to Baba-i-Urdu Road, but unchecked encroachments had made it difficult for patients and their attendants to pass through it.

He said roads leading towards MA Jinnah Road to Civil Hospital and SIUT had been encroached by the illegal stall owners, vendors, fruit sellers, and those parking motorcycles due to KMC negligence.

The constant road blockages and traffic jams had made ambulance drivers carrying injured people difficult to enter hospitals. The drivers also face hardships in shifting injured people to hospital due to traffic jams on roads leading from Jama Cloth Market to hospital gate due to parking of vehicles and establishment of roadside stalls outside the hospital. The roads leading to MA Jinnah Road to hospital has completely encroached by the illegal vendors, stall owners, and fruit sellers.

On the other hand, encroachment and illegal motorcycle parking outside Sindh Institute of Skin Diseases (SISD), Karachi, are not causing grave inconvenience to visiting patients, attendants, doctors and other hospital staff.

The constant road blockages and traffic jams have made visiting patients, attendants and hospital staff difficult to enter hospitals in rush hours. Some encroacher have also established illegal bike parking sites in front of Skin Hospital’s main entrance gate.

Well-placed sources at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital told PPI that some private rescue organizations had also set up ambulance counters outside the entrance gate of the hospital, causing serious inconvenience to patients and ambulances carrying injured people.
