Eradication of polio virus feasible by improved immunization: Health Minister

KARACHI: While emphasizing on improved routine immunization, Provincial Minister for Health Sindh, Dr Sagheer Ahmed stated eradication of polio disease is not feasible until routine immunization is improved in a meeting with a delegation of Bill Gates Foundation in his office.

He expressed grave concerns over rising cases of polio and said that all stakeholders have to make joint efforts for better results. He further said that eradication of polio virus was feasible by improved routine immunization.

Minister also praised Bill Gates Foundation, UNICEF, WHO, and Rotary Club for playing a positive role. Meanwhile, he urged that all Union Councils (UCs) of the province be supplied with sufficient amount of vaccines and any negligence would not be tolerated.

The delegation comprised Director of Routine IPI Orien Levine, Deputy Director Tim Peterson, Senior Program Manager Dr. Waqar Ajmal, Focal Person Polio Monitoring Cell MP House Dr. Altaf, and UNICEF Polio team Sindh representative.
