Ex-deputy speaker Begum Ashraf Abbasi passes away

RATODERO: Former deputy speaker of National Assembly from Larkana, Begum Ashraf Abbasi, passed away due to illness here on Sunday. She was 89. Begum Ashraf Abbasi was among founder PPP leaders of Pakistan. She became the first lady deputy speaker of the parliament. She was a doctor and elected as member of West Pakistan Assembly in 1962 and 1965.

In 1970, she was elected MNA on Pakistan People’s Party ticket. She served as deputy speaker of National Assembly of Pakistan twice from 11 August 1973 to 10 January 1977 and 03 December 1988 to 06 August 1990. Her two sons Senator Safdar Abbasi and ex-MPA Munawar Abbasi are active in politics. Her funeral prayer will be offered at 10 am on Monday in Abbasi Kalhora House, Larkana.
