Experts want promotion of organ donation welfare

KARACHI: Prof Ejaz Ahmed Khan of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation on Wednesday said transplantation of various human organs were successfully performed in different countries of the world, hence, they should also promote it in Pakistan.

This he said while talking to media in sideline of awareness seminar on transplantation jointly organized by SIUT in collaboration with Greenwich University Karachi and HUM Private Television at Dewn Farooq Medical Center SIUT. Director SIUT Professor Adib Rizvi, Dr AQ Mughal Research Professor of Greenwich University and Dr Murli Lal were also present on this occasion.

Prof Ejaz said diabetes and other diseases were on the rise in the country. He said transplantation of various diseases was successfully carried out in different countries and it need to be promoted in the country. He stressed the need for promoting the organ donation culture to get rid of liver, kidney and other diseases.

Dr Murli said kidney disease has become common in the society due to lack of basic health facilities at local level. He said transplantation of organs was a successful way to save precious lives. He said significant number of people die of kidney, liver, heart, lung, and other organs failure every year and those precious lives could be saved if deceased organ donation was fully established in country.
