KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday awarded five-year imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000 to a man in money extortion case.
ATC judge found Mohammad Imran guilty of demanding extortion from complainant in 2014 and hurling threats in case of non-payment. The ATC judge pronounced its verdict after recording witnesses’ statements, evidences and hearing arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, the accused had demanded extortion of Rs 500,000 from complainant, after bargaining both parties agreed on amount of 50,000. The police came in action and arrested extortionist red handed on 13 November 2014 when he reached at set place to collect extortion.
The court also imposed Rs 20,000 fine and the convict will have to undergone an additional six-month imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
