KARACHI: The faulty Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine of Civil Hospital Karachi has been made operational again after the gap of two years, PPI learned on Monday.

An official of Radiology Department Civil Hospital Karachi said MRI machine of the hospital had been not functional for last two years due to some fault, which was finally made operational on trial basis and tests on it be resumed within a week.

He said a brand new MRI machine was procured about two year ago and the hospital administration started running it on trial basis. He said sadly, during the trial period this brand new machine went out of order.

It is pertinent to mention here that a large number of patients used to get the facility of MRI in past free of cost but after the machine developed this mysterious fault, the visiting and admitted patients were asked to get their MRI reports done from nearby private facilities at very high cost. Many poor patients simply had to discontinue their treatment as they could not afford the costly MRI fees of the private facilities.

Medical Superintendent (MS) of CHK Prof Dr M Saeed Quraishi, however, was not available for comment.
