Flights in Islamabad rescheduled for re-carpeting runwayOctober 14, 2015
KARACHI: Spokesman Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Danyal Gilani said on Thursday all the flights had been rescheduled in Islamabad owing to re-carpeting of runway.
He said Islamabad airport would remain closed for the re-carpeting between 01:00pm and 06:00 pm every day from Oct 18 to 28.
Because of this PIA had to reschedule all the flights taking off or landing at the Islamabad airport, he said.
“Passengers are being informed through SMS and telephone calls about rescheduled timetable. Passengers are also requested to confirm their flights from PIA Call Centre at UAN 111 786 786 to avoid any inconvenience,” he said.
Local and international flights of PIA and private airlines have been rescheduled at Benazir Bhutto International Airport because of the regular maintenance, the spokesperson apprised.
Spokesman Civil Aviation Authority Pervez George said a NoTAM (Notice To Airmen) had been issued fortnight before the repairing work started, so that all the airline operations could timely inform their passengers.
“About 100 international and local flights are operated daily, including landing and taking off flights, through the Islamabad airport and the afternoon is the time when there is very thin traffic almost no more than five to six flights. Hence, it is not a big deal to reschedule the flights,” he said.
He said it was just a regular maintenance which was required because of deteriorating situation of the runway.
To a query, he said PIA had no secondary runway. However, the new under-construction airport in the city, which would be completed by 2016 end, would not have this issue.
“The new airport is designed on international standard with all state-of-the-art facilities,” he said.
