Mandi Bahauddin: Flood victims on Sunday criticized government for nonpayment of relief assistance announced by Punjab chief minister after flood hit the area. Most of them alleged that their names were not included in the list during assessment survey while others complained that their names were included in the assessment survey list but they were denied the payment. There are other people too who said that there were cases where more than one members of a family received the relief compensation.
They also alleged that disbursement was being made on political basis as the names included in the lists were of those who were favorites and close to the political personalities and revenue field staff.
Additional District Collector Waseem Abbas when contacted saud the payment of the second installment of relief assistance was almost completed in Mandi Bahauddin district which was according to the list received from Punjab Disaster Management Authority.
Flood victims numbering 7400 of 126 villages notified as flood affected were paid compensation. Besides, 2263 persons under Benazir Support Program residing in flood affected and notified villages were also paid Rs 10000 each.
Farmers were paid for ruined crops at the rate of Rs 10000 per acre while those with damaged houses were paid Rs 80000 per house fully damaged and Rs 40000 per house partially damaged. He said three Rehabilitation Centers at Saida, Mong and Malakwal had been established established.
He said in view of approaching winter about eight hundred quilts were distributed among the flood-beaten people. When his attention was drawn to complaints of flood victims regarding nonpayment of relief assistance, he said such complaints were pouring in large numbers and there was appellant committee headed by retired Sessions Judge Ch Mohammad Hussain Maken to decide them and recommend proper action for relief.
He told media that the joint teams of NADRA and PDMA conducted assessment survey with the assistance of field staff of revenue and agriculture departments under third party system to ensure transparency and list of flood hit persons with details of their houses and crops damaged were prepared.
