Floods: PDMA urges evacuation of people from Katcha areas by 12 Sept

KARACHI: Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday asked relevant commissioners and deputy commissioners to evacuate till 12 September 2014 the residents and livestock of katcha areas likely to be hit by flood.

According to a notification issued by DG PDMA Syed Salman Shah, PDMA asked the relevant officials to level safe places to establish tent cities with proper access routes. It also called for making efforts for protection of senior citizens, disabled people, women and children during evacuation process.

PDMA urged officials to shift doctors and paramedics to relief camps along with sufficient stock of medicines and ASVs. It also asked livestock department to ensure availability of fodder and other veterinary services at relief camps.

The police and other law enforcement authorities were also asked to remain present at relief camps in order to ensure safety and security of displaced people and to maintain law and order situation.

The disaster management authority also called for ensuring availability of basic needs like clean drinking water, sanitation and other facilities at relief camps.

It asked irrigation department officials to visit all flood protection embankments, ensure special attention on vulnerable points and assure that vulnerability at those points are reduced. It also called for proper maintenance of dewatering pumps and made them operational wherever needed.
