Fluoroscopy X-ray machine non-functional at JPMC

Karachi: Fluoroscopy X-ray machine of Radiology Department Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre has not been functioning over the last three years, increasing miseries to visiting patients.

An official of Radiology Department JPMC on condition of anonymity said special X-ray machine known as fluoroscopy was out of order since three years but the administration was unable to get it repaired.

He explained that fluoroscopy X-ray machine is used for bone X-ray, special X-ray, barium meals, barium swallow, IVP, IVU, and other critical X-ray tests. This fluoroscopy X-ray tests help diagnose disturbance in flow of blood circulation and glands.

He informed that fluoroscopy X-ray machine was out of order since 2010 but no step had yet been taken to get the machine repaired. The general public has been compelled to pay fees of private X-ray centres for tests. Fluoroscopy is latest X-ray machine having capacity to carry out more X-ray tests in less time.

Head of Radiology Department JPMC Prof Tariq Mehmood said fluoroscopy machine was not functioning due to frequent short circuits and voltage problems in old radiology building. He said administration had repaired fluoroscopy machine several times but every time short circuit created faults in the machine.

He said construction of new radiology department building was in final phase and all diagnostic machines would be shifted to new building soon.
