ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has stressed that all anti-terrorism efforts should be within the parameters of international laws.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Ms Tasnim Aslam, at her weekly news briefing here on Thursday, was commenting on the US President Barrack Obama’s statement about taking unilateral action against terrorists.
She said we appreciate the United States for expressing solidarity with us on the Peshawar tragedy. However as regards the countering terrorism, the action should be in line with international laws and cooperation amongst members of international community.
To a query about the upcoming visit of the US president to India, the spokesperson hoped the United States, being the global power, will take up with the Indian authorities the issue of recent escalation on the Line of Control and the working boundary.
Several Pakistanis have lost their lives as a result of unprovoked Indian firing. She said this escalation at a time when Pakistan is in the midst of a robust and broad operation against terrorism reflects that certain forces does not want Pakistan to succeed in the war against this menace. It, she said, is not in the interest of the international community including India.
She voiced concerns over burning of four Muslims in Assam saying this is flagrant violation of human rights. She hoped that the Indian government will look into the incident and take stern action against the responsible persons.
When asked about the presence of Islamic State elements in Pakistan, she said we are alert to the threat of the outfit. She said Pakistan is already carrying out an across the board operation against all the terrorists.
When asked about the action taken by Pakistan against the UN proscribed outfits including Jamaat-ud Dawa, the spokesperson clarified that Pakistan takes immediate action against the organizations banned by the UN sanctions committee. The measures include freezing of their assets and accounts.
She once again strongly condemned the publication of sacrilegious caricatures in a French magazine. She said the Advisor on foreign affairs has addressed a letter to the secretary general of the OIC asking him to initiate action to criminalize the publication of blasphemous caricatures as is the case in holocaust. These publications have hurt the sentiments of Muslims across the world and that no freedom of expression is not unlimited.
She questioned if the denial of holocaust can be criminalized then why it cannot happen in the case of Muslims where most sacred personality of Islam has repeatedly been insulted.
About relations with Afghanistan, Tasnim Aslam said we have been able to establish cooperative relations with the neighbouring country over the past few months. She said both the countries are in close contact and cooperating with each other in counter terrorism efforts.
