Foolproof security ordered for local bodies’ polls in Larkana

LARKANA: A high level meeting was held here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Larkana Division Commissioner Ghulam Akbar Laghari in which it was decided to provide foolproof security during the local bodies’ polls scheduled to be held on the last day of October 2015.

DIGP Saeen Rakhyo Mirani, Deputy Commissioners of Larkana, Qambar, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Kandhkot districts also took part along with the SSPs. District Election Commissioner, Larkana, briefed the meeting. The commissioner directed that code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan should be strictly complied with and security should also be ensured.

Laghari asked the participants to prepare lists of sensitive polling stations, and transport plan be prepared so that election material and polling staff could be ensured at the destinations properly. He said that Rangers will also be deployed along with police at the polling stations.

The commissioner informed the meeting that Returning Officers and District Returning Officers will be supplied computers and vehicles so that they could discharge their election duties in perfect manner. He directed officials to ensure close coordination with various departments so that no untoward incident take place during the election.

Laghari said that cellular phone numbers of Presiding Officers should also be obtained to remain in constant touch with them. “Control rooms will be established at district level basis, which will work round the clock. He also directed the Health Department officers to keep open Rural Health Centers and Basic Health Units 24 hours, where doctors, and paramedics be also made available along with medicines. He said that peace will be maintained at all costs so that people may exercise their right to vote freely,” the commissioner concluded.
