Four villages suffer as oil company blocks their pathAugust 7, 2014
Karachi: Thousands of the people of four villages situated near a petroleum company have been suffering a lot of problems when the company, blocked their road due to ‘security concerns’. The villagers termed the action as restriction of free movement of citizens which is the violation of the constitution.
As per details, a delegation of the affected villagers told media that the inhabitants of Village Kalu Khan Buriro, Village Sono Khan Buriro, Village Jan Muhammad Bughio and Village Nazir Ahmed Korai were suffering a lot of problems as Mari Petroliam Company Limited Daharki had closed approach way to the National Highway, local graveyards and Daharki town. They charged that some elements in the management of Engro Fertilizer, Daharki are supporting to restrict the free movement of these villagers in the name of security concerns.
They said they had approached the deputy commissioner Ghotki to take action against the management of Marri Petroleum Company Limited Daharki for illegally closing down their historical village path, locally called Gus or Pecharo leading towards Daharki town in Kharaba area, creating immense hardships for them. They said the inhabitants of this area were using this pathway for centuries and its blockage is totally unwarranted and violation of the basic right of the citizens of free movement.
They said the company had blocked the pathway measuring 1793 feet and the villagers have to use an alternate pathway with is about 2 kilometers long. He said villagers, including old people, patients, women and children have to walk for two kilometers which causes them great hardships. They said they have also to walk for w kilometers to bury their dead in the local graveyard.
They said the deputy commissioner Ghotki has already termed the installation of gate by Mari Petroleum Company as illegal and directed its management to remove it immediately to facilitate the villagers of nearby scattered villages; however, the management is reluctant to give the villagers their historical access to Daharki Town, main highway and the graveyard.
They appealed to the Sindh chief minister, governor and the chief justice of Sindh High Court to take notice of the situation and get opened the historical approach way of these villages.
