Free orthopaedic clinic kicks off in KarachiNovember 18, 2014
KARACHI: President, Pakistan Orthopaedic Association (POA), Prof Dr Muhammad Parwez Anjum on Wednesday revealed that 90 percent elderly people are suffering from various bone and joint problems in Pakistan.
He informed this views while inaugurating the ‘Free Orthopaedic Clinic’ at Wazir Trauma Centre located near Numaish in front of Mazar-e-Quaid. Prof Jokhio, Prof Wazir Sheikh, Prof Masood Umer, Dr Ghulam Mustafa and Naeemul Haq were also present on this occasion.
Prof Parwez explained that about 90 percent women over 45 years of age and men over 60 years of age are living with various joint and bone problems in the country. He said unbalanced diet and calcium deficiency are the major reasons behind bones and joints disorders.
He said POA free Orthopaedic Clinic had been established in Wazir Trauma Centre near Numaish in front of Quaid Mausoleum, where assistant professors and senior orthopaedic surgeons including female surgeons would be available daily from 1 to 4pm except Fridays and Sundays.
This would help patients suffering from orthopaedic diseases to get senior consultation at early stages saving their money, time and complications of diseases. He informed check-up would be made only by appointment and patients can contact office of POA located in PMA House or get appointment by phone on 021-32294825, 0311-1297150 between office hours.
He said consultation would be provided for all orthopaedic problems but not limited to fractures, arthritis, backache, joints pain, and osteoporosis. He said patients would need not to make a queue to get free consultation but they would be treated with dignity. “We have capacity to take 40 to 50 patients daily”, he informed.
He said aim of establishing this clinic to work for the welfare of poor patients. He said majority of patients could not afford huge fees to consult a senior surgeon whereas they could hardly get chance to see senior surgeon in public sector hospitals due to burden of patients.
He said POA had started first ever free orthopaedic clinic to provide free consultation to poor and needy patients with respect and dignity. He POA had decided to enlarge the circle of orthopaedic clinic across the country in future, while medicines and tests facilities would be provided to patients in future with cooperation of pharmaceutical companies and philanthropists
