Frontier Mine Owners Association rejects Mining and Mineral Policy 2014October 19, 2014
Peshawar: Frontier Mine Owners Association (FMOA) on Thursday rejected the proposed Mining and Mineral Policy 2014 and said with its implementation mining sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be destroyed.
Holding a protest demonstration against the mineral policy of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa here near Peshawar Press Club the demonstrators said that they would not accept the new policy as it would render thousands of workers jobless.
President of FMOA Sher Bandi and General Secretary Haji Abdul-Jalil along with
Hundreds of mine owners and labours participated in the protest demonstration. They chanted slogans against KP government and were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands and against the provincial minister Ziaullah Afridi.
“The policy is meant to destroy mineral sector as a conspiracy was hatched to hand over the whole sector to blue-eyed people”, they alleged.
They said around 0.8million workers have been attached and their families would be compelled to stop educating the children if new policy is implemented.
They accused that the concerned minister is involved in corruption said that instead banning all the sectors i.e. Leasing, cancellation and renewal of lease the minister concern is only cancelling the leases of mine owners.
Despite banned on mining and minerals, illegal exploration is going on, they blamed and added despite the department is generating big revenue this sector, now facing financial problems after ban is being imposed.
They, therefore, demanded of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khan Khattak to review the new policy and lift ban on mining and mineral sector adding that all verbally orders by Ziaullah Afridi be withdrawn, failing which, the workers and mine owners would be compelled to stay a sit-in opposite provincial assembly and in front of Imran’s residence in Bani Gala.
