Lahore: PIAF-Founders Alliance has urged the government to create consensus on Kalabagh Dam immediately to avoid horrible flood devastation in future.

In a statement issued here Wednesday, PIAF-Founders Alliance leaders Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and Sheikh Mohammad Asif said that recent floods had written new stories of destruction in all the provinces. Millions people have lost their property and other assets. They said that had Kalabagh Dam been constructed a few years back, the situation would have been quite satisfactory and the volume of loss would have been much smaller.

They said that just before the flood, the country was facing acute shortage of water and power that had put the very survival of the country at stake.

They said that Kalabagh Dam was a mega project of national interest as it could easily curtail the menace of water shortage and could generate more than 3500 MW cheap electricity. And most importantly it could save the people of particularly Sindh and Balochistan from flood destruction.

The people, who are crying against Kalabagh Dam, always avoid saying a word against Baglihar Dam, which shows that how much they are loyal with the country, if these people do not care the interests of Pakistan.

They said that keeping in view the devastation of recent flood, government should not waste time and start construction of KBD immediately otherwise the days are not too far when the Pakistan would have best irrigation system in the world but not water.
