Karachi: Pakistan American Democratic Forum (PADF) has urged the Pakistani government to redouble its efforts for the release of Aafia Siddiqui.

In an extraordinary session of the working committee of the Pakistan American Democratic Forum, PADF, in Washington, D. C, on August 16, 2014, co-moderated by its current national chairman Dr Mohammad Ashraf Toor and its founder Dr Agha Saeed, the group felt “morally obliged” to expose and denounce a political ‘trio’ for its bid aimed at seeking the extrajudicial release of a former dictator, says a release of Aafia Movement Pakistan issued here Monday.

The PADF, a grassroots organization founded in 1982 in support of Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD), has called on fellow Pakistani-Americans to actively support the Supreme Court‘ instructions to the government to complete the legal action against General Musharraf under article 6 of the Constitution.

The PADF statement, in part, reads: “We urge Pakistani-Americans to continue their informed involvement in four areas:

1) “Continue providing informed and principled support for the SC decisions against the former military dictator Musharraf as well as the corrupt politicians, land mafia and the sell-out journalists.

2)“Deploy all creative, legal and moral means of conveying your moral outrage against the open – public – pressure being exercised by a political trio in Pakistan aimed at coalescing the most ill-intentioned plans.

3) “Vigilantly follow multiple – multidimensional – cases against Musharraf to ensure fairness and transparency, at one level, and to ensure that those found guilty are punished to the full extent of the law, at the other.

4) “Continue demanding that the Pakistan’s federal government must double its multilevel and multi-pronged, diplomatic initiative to negotiate Dr Aafia’s release.

The release says in his book titled In the Line of Fire, Musharraf makes the following (unforgivable) confession:

“We have captured 689 [terrorists] and handed over 369 to the United States. Various Pakistani individuals have earned bounties totalling millions of dollars. Those who habitually accuse us of “not doing enough” in the war on terror should simply ask the CIA how much prize money it has paid to Pakistanis.”

The release said Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was one of those suspected “terrorists”. It said General Musharraf’s Foreign Minister, Khurshid Kasuri, has confessed the complicity of the Musharraf regime in kidnapping and handing over Dr Aafia to the US government, and has apologized for his own involvement in this abominable act, stating “I’m so sorry for handing over the innocent Dr Aafia Siddiqui to the Americans. It was my biggest mistake ever.”
