Grants for public hospitals doubled: Jam Mehtab

KARACHI: Provincial Minister Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday said that keeping in view the influx of patients in Karachi, the grants of government hospitals had been doubled so that the patients could get better health facilities and medicines.

This he said while presiding over a meeting here in his office. He appealed to Supreme Court to give verdict regarding Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre employees issues at earliest so that the health department would be able to resolve their problems in the light of court decision.

He said after 18th amendment, the power regarding Drug Regulatory Authority was due to be delegated to the provinces but so far it hasn’t been done so and due to the situation, it has become difficult to overcome increased medicines prices.

Mehtab directed secretary health to immediately get MRI machine at JMPC repaired in couple of days. He told that the Kidney Centre in Sukkur would be functional in a year and it would not only benefit the patients of Sukkur but also the patients of surroundings as well.

The meeting was informed that the old patients of hepatitis were getting medicines, there was issue for newly registered patients, however the supply of medicines was being ensured to the patients.

The health minister said that 170 closed dispensaries had been made functional in Thar.
