Grenade attack near police check-post, 4 cops injured

KARACHI: Four policemen were injured in a hand grenade blast near a police check post at Nursery along Shara-e-Faisal on Wednesday. According to police and rescue teams, some unknown bike riders threw a hand grenade at a picket of Police Madadgar-15 located under a bridge at Shahrah-e-Quaideen near Nursery Stop along Shahrah-e-Faisal.

In-charge Madadgar-15 police check post Inspector Humayun said that four policemen, Saleem, 42, son of Qasim, constable Mahiwal, 43, son of Nazar Muhammad, constable Maqsood, 40, son of Orangzeb, and Nasir, 35, son of Farooq received minor injuries in the incident.

He said that the injured policemen were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. He said that police contingent often leaves the check post around 9:15 am that is why no major loss occurred.

The walls and windows of the police check post and motorbikes parked outside there were badly damaged in the attack. The police and Rangers personnel cordoned off the area as investigating agencies started collecting evidences from the scene.

On the other hand, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Coordination Committee condemned the blast on police check-post. In a statement issued here today, MQM Coordination Committee demanded of the Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to nab the criminals involved in the blast.
