Growers hold demo against low paddy rates

LARKANA: Abadgar Hari Ittehad took out a rally here on Wednesday against low paddy price. The participants marched through various roads and reached Jinnah Bagh roundabout, where they held a protest demonstration amid hot weather in which a farmer fainted.

The protesters, holding placards and banners, chanted slogans in favour of their demands. Talking to reporters, Anwar Ali Janwari, Habibullah Depar, Irfan Jatoi, Bilal Mangrio, and Irfan Mahesar said that few days back, the price of paddy was fixed between Rs 900 to Rs 930 per 40kg, but now traders are giving between Rs 650 to 750 per 40 kg which is unjust due to which the growers have reached at the verge of economic destruction.

They said that when paddy crop is harvested, businessmen adopt their usual tricks. They said that they don’t expect anything from the Sindh government as they are facing severe difficulties constantly. They have been holding regular protests but nothing has been done to enhance the price and they are being looted with both hands. The leaders said peasants community had been completely ignored by the present government. They alleged that commission mafia had become very active once again having support of rulers. They urged Prime Minister and Chief of Army Staff to come to their rescue.
